Terms of service
Last updated: 2026-04-26 · Status: Draft, subject to change before public launch.
These terms cover what we owe each other when you use Lodestar. We've kept them as plain as legal allows. If something feels off, email hello@lodestar.cv.
Lodestar is operated by Kirates ("Lodestar", "we", "us"), registered in the Republic of Ghana at [[REGISTERED_ADDRESS]] (company no. [[COMPANY_NUMBER]]). By creating an account or otherwise using Lodestar, you accept these terms electronically under section 13 of Ghana's Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772).
Where Lodestar is offered
Lodestar is intended for users in Ghana and other jurisdictions where Kirates can fully meet local consumer-protection and data-protection requirements. We do not currently offer the service to residents of the European Union, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom.
Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use Lodestar. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use Lodestar only with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these terms on your behalf. We do not knowingly accept users under 16; if we learn that an account belongs to someone under that age, we will delete it.
Using Lodestar
- Lodestar is provided free of charge for the core résumé builder. If paid features are added, they will be clearly labeled and optional.
- You are responsible for the content you put into your résumé. Don't upload anything that violates the law, infringes intellectual property, harasses or defames any person, or harms another person's rights.
- Don't use Lodestar to send spam, attack other services, scrape user content at scale, or otherwise misuse our infrastructure.
- We may suspend or terminate your account for material or repeated breach of these terms, with reasonable notice where the situation allows.
Your account
- You can create an account with email/password, Google, or GitHub.
- You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure.
- You can request account deletion at any time by emailing privacy@lodestar.cv. A self-serve deletion flow in profile settings is on our roadmap.
Your content
You own everything you put into Lodestar. We don't claim any rights over your résumé content.
You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, render, and export your content solely to provide the service on your behalf (for example, rendering the editor, generating PDFs, serving a published résumé at a link you create). This license ends when you delete your content or close your account, except to the extent retention is required by law or our standard backup cycle.
You represent and warrant that:
- you own or have all necessary rights to the content you upload;
- your content does not infringe any third party's intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights;
- statements you make about your education, employment history, qualifications, or other credentials are true and not misleading;
- statements you make about prior employers, colleagues, or any other third party are your own representations and not unlawful misrepresentations or defamation;
- your content is not unlawful, harassing, threatening, hateful, or otherwise prohibited under these terms.
Notice and takedown
Lodestar acts as a neutral host of user content. We do not pre-screen content posted to Lodestar. Our hosting role and our rights and obligations as a host are governed by sections 90 to 92 of Ghana's Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772) and analogous safe-harbor regimes in other jurisdictions.
If you believe content published through Lodestar infringes your rights or violates these terms, email abuse@lodestar.cv with:
- Identification of the specific content and its URL;
- The basis for your complaint (which right is infringed and how);
- Your full contact information;
- A good-faith statement that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are authorized to make the complaint.
We will review valid notices and may, at our discretion, remove or restrict the content, suspend the responsible account, or take other action. If your content is removed in response to a notice and you believe the removal was in error, you may submit a counter-notice to the same address; we will consider counter-notices before any restoration.
No professional advice
Lodestar is a self-service publishing tool. Templates, suggestions, automated writing assistance, and any other features are provided for general informational purposes only and do not constitute career counseling, legal, financial, employment, immigration, or other professional advice. You are solely responsible for the accuracy and appropriateness of your résumé, including all factual statements about your education, employment history, qualifications, and credentials. Misrepresentation on a résumé may carry legal consequences in your jurisdiction; consult a qualified professional if you require advice.
Automated suggestions may contain errors, omissions, or inappropriate recommendations. You must review and approve all content before publishing it through Lodestar or submitting it to any third party.
Service availability and disclaimers
Lodestar is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We work hard to keep it reliable but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. If Lodestar is unavailable, your local-first data remains on your device.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, LODESTAR IS PROVIDED WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, COMPLETENESS, OR UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT EXPORTED PDFs WILL BE ACCEPTED BY ANY APPLICANT TRACKING SYSTEM OR EMPLOYER, OR THAT AUTOMATED WRITING SUGGESTIONS ARE ACCURATE OR APPROPRIATE FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
Sanctions and restricted use
You represent that you are not located in, under the control of, or a national or resident of any country subject to comprehensive U.S. trade sanctions (currently including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine), and that you are not on any U.S. or applicable government list of prohibited or restricted parties (including OFAC's Specially Designated Nationals List and the BIS Entity List). You agree not to use Lodestar in violation of any applicable export control or sanctions law.
If you use AI writing assistance, your use is also subject to the underlying provider's acceptable use policy (currently OpenAI or Anthropic, depending on which you connect).
Changes to Lodestar
We may add, change, or remove features over time. Core résumé functionality will remain free. If we change these terms materially, we will notify you in the app; the changes take effect 30 days after notice. If you do not agree with the changes, you may close your account before they take effect.
Limits of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Lodestar's aggregate liability arising out of or related to the service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid for the service in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) GHS 100 (or equivalent).
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, LODESTAR IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST REVENUE, LOST DATA, LOSS OF GOODWILL, OR LOSS OF EMPLOYMENT OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF LODESTAR, EVEN IF LODESTAR HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law. This includes:
- death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- gross negligence or wilful misconduct; and
- breaches of mandatory consumer-protection statutes that apply to you in your jurisdiction.
If you are dissatisfied, you may stop using Lodestar and export your data at any time; any mandatory statutory remedies available to you as a consumer remain unaffected.
Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Kirates, Lodestar, and their officers, directors, employees, contractors, and agents from and against any claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:
- your content;
- your use of or access to Lodestar;
- your violation of these terms; or
- your violation of any third-party right, including intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights.
We reserve the right to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter subject to indemnification by you, in which case you agree to cooperate with our defense. This obligation survives termination of these terms.
This indemnification does not apply to any claim caused by our own gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or to any liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law.
Governing law and dispute resolution
These terms are governed by the laws of Ghana, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes will be brought before the competent courts of Ghana.
If you are a consumer in another jurisdiction, this clause does not deprive you of mandatory protections granted to consumers by the law of your country of habitual residence.
General
- Severability. If any provision of these terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
- Entire agreement. These terms, together with the privacy policy, are the entire agreement between you and Lodestar regarding the service and supersede any prior agreements.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of that provision.
- No assignment by user. You may not assign or transfer these terms without our written consent. We may assign these terms freely as part of a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or restructuring.
- Survival. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination, including intellectual property, indemnification, limitations of liability, disclaimers, and governing law, survive termination of these terms.
- Force majeure. We are not liable for failure to perform due to events outside our reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, terrorism, civil disturbance, government action, network outages, or third-party service failures.
